Two jubilees in one go

Sites in Erkrath and Nuremberg celebrate 40th anniversaries

1 July 1984 is a date firmly anchored in the 48-year history of rff - the day on which the Erkrath/Düsseldorf and Nuremberg sites were founded. The two sites are currently celebrating 40 years of operations. We spoke to two colleagues who have been there from day one and their trainee time, respectively.

Sabine Strauß can still clearly recall the early days at the Erkrath site: “The level of equipment was very basic and there were no working telephones or computers. The inventories were handed to us each week by the boss in person, in the form of paper lists.” Nevertheless, the site in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia developed swiftly and the colleagues there became increasingly adept at convincing customers of the benefits of co-operation with rff. Today, most business partners only hear tales of how, for many years, the site comprised a warehouse with adjoining turning shop. In 2006 the subsidiary relocated to its own, modern office facilities in Max-Planck-Straße. From here, over 20 employees now support customers from across the Rhineland and Ruhr region. A further team has long focused on the requirements of the chemical industry. In addition, there is also a logistics centre, which acts as a transshipment point for the Rhine/Ruhr area.

Celebrations are also under way at the southernmost German site. Most of the colleagues in Nuremberg were not even born yet in 1984. Despite this, Peter Stefan Sühs can at least recount the early days of his training in 2004. “When I started my training, we were still based in Neuwieder Straße. In addition to the offices there was also a small warehouse, which some of our customers can still remember today.” One pleasant ritual from that time is still repeated once a year: The warehouse manager at the time would set up the barbecue once a month and employees would take the opportunity to eat and chat together. In 2005 there was a move to the offices directly at the Stadtpark, from where approximately 20 employees still support customers from Franconia and Bavaria to this day.

“The Erkrath and Nuremberg sites have evolved continuously over the last 40 years. They are a central component of the rff family and have firmly established themselves as a competent partner from the region and for our customers in North Rhine - Westphalia and Bavaria,” note the two managing directors Michael Allexi and Jörg Delveaux, marking the anniversaries of the two sites.
